Kevin – Wednesday. As projected, the rain keeps on a-comin’. It’s not blowing quite as hard, but it’s a steady rain. I didn’t really include any consideration for bad weather days in our schedule. It’s the far west. You can go for months without rain.

So, to make the best of our day, we’ve gone back to the library (the staff are so nice to us) and continued our work to research, promote the 4-Trail Bill before Congress, promote the OCTA conference in Pueblo and all the other things we’ve got our thumb into. There are e-mails asking for historic details, family items of interest to be involved with, and well, modern life. In the mid-afternoon we decide to purchase some additional biking supplies which Kevin hadn’t had time to attend to before we left. With no real prospects for bike supplies before us (well, maybe Casper), we thought it very important to visit a bike repair and supplies shop.
We are going to put in a shameless plug here for ‘Bike Peddler’ of Greeley Colorado. Robert Cantrell (Mechanic) listened to our plans, concerns and fears, then took us around the shop as he informed us and made suggestions (with alternatives). There are some pretty nifty products that are perfect for back-roads like we will be on. Robert was gracious to us and we left (arms full) with items we believe will be important going into the hinterlands.

During our 2008-09 trip, we became well acquainted with ‘goat heads’ thorns. See the WIKI article for Tribulus terrestris. Robert had a whole jar of these stickers that are wicked tire puncture threats. While our bikes have done well so far, we are nothing less than very concerned about what lies ahead. With Robert’s help, we’re much more confident we will be as puncture proof as possible.

We got so much work done today we decided to devote a bit or our evening to playing a couple rounds of Skip-bo, the official relaxation card game of Battalion Trek. Thanks Judy!
