Day 38 – Quantifiable PROGRESS! – Glendo, WY

June 2, 2025

Kevin – Monday. Rainy days and Mondays always get me … oh, what the heck. It doesn’t matter. Every day is a good day, isn’t it? True, there may be setbacks in one area or another of life, but, each day has all kinds of opportunities and possibilities.

Take today for instance.

After figuratively beating my head against the wall for more than six months trying to develop contacts with property owners up in the Black Hills between Ft Laramie and Casper, it became clear this morning that’s it’s time to throw in the towel and move on to other goals. Either these folks didn’t respond or claimed ignorance of who to actually talk to. My efforts were ghosted. Gaslit. Something like that.

Minutes later, Tammy the RV park owner came by to check on my plans. In the course of the conversation, she asked how was it going. She knows in outline what we’re doing. “Not too well”, I said. “It’s difficult finding contact information for these property owners. We’re boxed out.”

”Well, who do you need to talk to? I know a lot of these people and have their phone numbers” she replied. So, my ‘wish list’ of owners was pulled up on the computer and in five minutes I had three more phone numbers.

As of this evening, the #1 property important to hike has given liberal permission to hike his land. And so has site #2. And #3. On Wednesday we will be able to hike them. If we get access to Black Hills key site #4, I’ll consider this entire 3-month effort a reasonable success. Wednesday may open yet more doors for us. And, don’t forget our experience with Cody at Point of Rocks. This is getting better by the day.

Today’s experience has got ideas spinning in my heae about additional opportunities to develop relationships among the landowners, OCTA and the Mormon trail associations. Oh! The possibilities! (You may want to reread yesterday’s revelation that I tend to inspire chaos with my ideas.)

Report on the Better Half: Denny is in Utah taking care of baby Madeline for three more days. She has also been busy adding new video clips to our Battalion Trek YouTube channel's Trek 2025 Playlist. All four of our kids are together for a couple days. And, I’m in Wyoming where it’s Monday and raining hard - again. (sigh)
