Kevin – Tuesday. With plans in place finally to gain access to some Black Hills ranches, it’s time to move to the next town, Casper Wyoming. By myself, it occupies a good portion of the day. All the stuff inside the RV needs to be protected from bounces, tilts, and movement in general (30 minutes). The RV itself has to be secured – all the windows, vents, pilot lights secured, stabilization legs retracted, the landing pads picked up, rinsed off (lots of sand/mud from rain) and put away (30 minutes). The black and gray water tanks emptied, flushed and piping put away (30 minutes). Then I can hook up the truck to the RV in preparations to tow (30 minutes). Stop at the gas station, top off, potty stop, then drive to Casper (1:20) Photo: Truck & RV rig ready to go..
At Casper, I have to register, get my pad assignment and information, then kind of repeat the RV downing process in reverse which takes only a little less time. So, yeah, it was a non-productive morning in the general sense.
Tomorrow I’ll be in the field looking for trail, so after a late lunch, I spend an hour reading journal entries and texts dealing with this section of trail. That’s to refresh my mind on what I hope to see.
Then I spend a couple hours working on a presentation to be delivered at the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center on Saturday. My topic will be ‘Col. Stephen W. Kearny’s South Pass Expedition of 1845; Prelude to war and the Mormon Battalion Detachments in Wyoming.’ Stay tuned.
