Kevin – Saturday. Tom hadn’t seen actual wagon swales before, so we took a quick trip a few miles north to where he could see some near the Sweetwater. And, he was introduced to the cattle ranch maxim; “Leave the cattle gate the way you found it.” You’ll have to ask him for a photo of him in the swales. I used his camera, not mine. Then, since Tom is on a terribly swift trip, we pushed him out the door (gently) and wished him well for the rest of his vacation. We are expecting to visit Midland in the fall and will see our friends there.

We had learned that a forest fire had sprung up in Pine Valley Utah where the Woodbury family has a cabin. Mark has been on the phone with the county, his family and friends trying to find out the situation. Twelve houses had burned as of last night and some of those were friends’ homes. While they think their cabin may be safe, it’s a worry.
Since we’ve finished the 6th Crossing to Rocky Ridge area, and will be moving on Monday, there’s really nothing of importance for them this weekend. Mark and Becky talked it over and decided to head homeward this morning. We will miss them but it’s probably a wise choice.

Denny and I spent time catching up on work, family business matters, and after lunch took a much-appreciated nap for an hour or so. BUT, again the wind is a tad more than brisk and we got back to tidying things up after a very busy week. We didn’t do many miles this past week, but there were a lot of necessary interactions, work and preparations.
Most importantly, Denny was finishing up her presentation proposal for RootsTech 2026. Oral Histories will be her topic. Watch to see if the proposal is in the program announcement – sometime in September.
Our last task of the day was to prepare our ‘linger-longer’ food offerings for tomorrows gathering after church. Shrimp dip and a variety of crackers is one. It was very tempting to name our second offering “Demonic Eggs” because they didn’t peel well and looked like he11.
And that’s the way it is, Saturday, June 21st, 2025.
